So you are seriously thinking of starting a new blog, but you are feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to start? Have you already started, but you have no idea where to go from there? Well, no matter what your case is you are in the right place. After almost 3 years of running this blog, and having many ups and downs, disappointments and successful moments I can confidently claim that I have some pretty good advice to share with you. Get ready for some useful blogging tips beginners will appreciate for sure!
Blogging Tips Beginners Will Appreciate in 2020
I am by no means a blogging expert (yet 😛 ), however, in the last few years, I have been fascinated by the world of content marketing and have learned a lot from hands-on experience and reading a lot from experts on the field. I believe I have some valuable knowledge to share, which is tested and tried and I am sure it can be very useful, especially to the newbies of the blogging world. Keep reading!
Share what you know and you are good at
When you start a blog you need to first think about your niche. You need to make sure it is on a topic you love and you have enough knowledge on. This way content creation will be much easier, especially in the future, since you will have many things, knowledge and ideas to share with your readers.
Provide solutions to people’s “problems”
When you start a new blog and have as a goal to attract visitors, you need to provide people with a solution to their problems. Will it be a cream for acne? Ways to style a shirt? No matter what, you need to create useful content that helps the readers with issues they are facing.
Be authentic
One of the most important things to have in mind is to be authentic. You always have to be yourself and create a relationship full of trust with your audience. If you are not yourself it will eventually show and come back to you and your blog in a negative way. Of course, you don’t have to share everything on your blog about you, however, don’t even think about lying or deceiving your readers in order to earn money.
Keep things as minimal as possible
When I first started blogging I wanted to fill my blog with many clutter, which fortunately I didn’t. Your website needs to have a clean layout and be easy to navigate. You have a few seconds to attract a possible reader and you don’t want him lost in the noise. Download the absolutely necessary plugins, minimize your categories, and have a clear menu.
Quality over quantity
100 low-quality blog posts will get you nowhere. It is better to have fewer blog posts of a higher quality that offer real and useful advice than more articles that offer zero value to a reader. For example, it is better to write 1 great quality blog post per week than 7 bad ones.
Be consistent
Consistency is really important if you want to see results anytime in the future. Writing 4 posts per year, even if they are of great quality will most likely not give you any significant results. Try to be consistent and set some specific days that you will be publishing a new post. You can even share them with your readers so that they know when to come back.
Try to have original images
This is a blogging aspect I am still trying to perfect and made me struggle a lot in the past. However, having beautiful, clean and original images is important, especially if your niche is mostly visual. How could I share my personal style, if I didn’t have my own outfits displayed? The same applies to any blog that is around image-related content.
Be patient and give it time
This is one of the things I wish I had understood earlier. It will take endless hours of work, and a lot of time to see your traffic grow. It will feel like forever and you will want to give up many times no matter how committed you are. Most of the people that start a blog give up because it can be a very tiring prosses. Working without seeing any rewards can be tough, but push through it if you enjoy it. Eventually, your hard work will pay off.
Now let’s move to some technical “boring” stuff to have in mind because they are as important as the rest.
Buy your own domain name
It is better to register your domain name (website name) than using the subdomain of wordpress.com. This way you will have the ownership of your content and the name. You don’t want to get to a point where your blog has grown and realize that someone else has purchased the name you want. I will not get into details about it now, but if you like, you can find more information here.
Find a hosting service
After you purchase the name of your “store” (your domain name), you need to rent some online space to place it. That online space is what is called website hosting. What you simply do is you park your domain name to this hosting platform and you are good to go. This hosting is paid monthly (much like rent) and serves more or less like a storage space for the files needed when someone wants to access your website online.
SEO is still important, but not everything
As machines get smarter, the experience of the reader is a very crucial part. It is important to write by following the basic SEO guidelines, however, you need to create useful and quality content rather than plain keywords that make no sense. When you write, you should always have in mind the person that is reading your posts and how you will add value to him rather than the machines that are crawling your website.
No need to feel overwhelmed
I know these are a lot to have in mind and can make you feel overwhelmed. Trust me, I’ve been there and the times I wanted to give up were countless, but I advise you to take one step at a time. A blog is a work in progress and there is no way you can do everything all at once. It is all about trial and error and learning from your mistakes. I am still extremely embarrassed for my very first blog post, however, it was the one that led to me where I am now and I wouldn’t change that for the world!
I really hope that these blogging tips for beginners will help you get started and make you feel less lost in the vast space of the blogging world.
